Video Poker Machines

Video poker has been a staple in physical casinos for decades, but it has found a brand-new lease of life since the advent of online casinos and the limitless possibilities that the technology provides, as you can have many different themes and designs around the gameplay itself. The game is changing even further now that online casinos are providing players with the chance to play live casino online, where you can join a table and play poker against a live human dealer, replicating the experience of a real casino from the comfort of your own home or wherever you are on the move.

Although video poker is based on real poker, there are some differences, let’s take a look at the two.

Video poker

In basic terms, video poker can be played both online and offline, without the requirement of a live element. It is also a game of poker that can be picked up quite easily by beginners, with the chance to learn the ropes whilst playing the first few games, whereas live dealer poker usually requires a bit more practice and knowledge of the game, with different elements coming into play. This is the same for both live poker in a land casino or when playing live poker at an online casino.

A machine-based game, video poker is one player against the machine, whether at a physical video poker machine in a casino or playing against the computer at an online casino. The total bet for each hand is made before any action takes place, and there are several winning hands that are ranked and with a payout attached to it, such as a royal flush being the highest paid hand and a pair of jacks or higher being the lowest payout.

Live Poker

Live poker is where two or more players play against each other, all sat around the poker table. There is an initial standard bet that each player must make to be dealt a hand, and cards are dealt in clockwise to each player. Players take it in turns to play, with each player required to match the previous players total bet to continue. When the betting can no longer increase, the bets are over. The highest-ranked hand wins the entire amount that all players have bet. Players play against each other, not the house. There are many different poker strategies, with several rounds of betting to each game expected. It offers intrigue, pace, and tactics like few other casino games.

Live online casino

Online casinos have opened up the game of poker to a much wider audience, with video poker games in their thousands available to choose from on various iGaming platforms like Kansino, an online casino that offers exclusive Dutch croupiers to provide an authentic experience. Live casino is the next evolutionary step, where players can play against other human players, and there is a human croupier on screen, with all action filmed and streamed directly to the players. This means that you can play a hand of poker from your phone as you’re sat on the bus during the morning commute or on your laptop at the kitchen dining table at home. Live poker online has changed the game for many players, opening up the world even further to a wider audience of players.

How to choose the right format of poker for you?

There are pros and cons to each type of poker, so it is all down to your personal preference. If you like to play poker on your own, against the computer, then video poker is probably the solution for you, and it is also a much easier game to play, with simple rules to follow, as opposed to live poker. On the other hand, if you want a greater challenge and want to play against other people, live poker is the answer. Live poker at an online casino combines the best of both worlds, giving you that social interaction and more challenging game of poker, without the need to leave the house to play.

There are benefits to playing both video poker and live poker as a player. It all depends on what you are looking for from a game. Video poker doesn’t rely on a human element, and can be played at a fast pace, over and over again, whilst there are always nuances and little social interactions with live poker (either in a real life casino or at an online live casino) that make it a different game and provides you with a different experience as a result. There is no right or wrong answer, all we see is that poker has a life that continues to evolve as a game, showcasing the different flourishes that make it exciting for all players, in whatever format they decide to play poker in. With there being a greater number of options for online live poker these days, it will be interesting to see how VR (virtual reality) and AR (augmented reality) are used in the coming years to improve the player experience even further when playing poker and other casino games online.
