How to save money so you can spend more abroad

Going abroad is always fun, but a lot of us find that when we get there we can’t quite afford to do all of the things we want to do. If you’re planning on going abroad any time soon and want some help saving up for a trip, here are some tips to help you out:

Organise holiday fun

Most of us just tend to put all of our income in one place and take out what we need when we need it. However, if you’re determined to have a great trip abroad and save money then you need to learn how to save properly. Either set up a new account with your bank or use cash to put the money you’re saving for holiday away from all of the rest of your money. This will prevent you from eating into your holiday fund if you overspend and will also help you keep track of how much you’ve saved and how much you have left to save.

Be safer with your bets

Whether you bet big or bet often, it’s better to be safe than sorry if you want to save up for a trip abroad. Keep your bets low risk while you’re saving up for holiday fun and if you’re a regular gambler you should set yourself a gambling budget, either per day or for the entire time leading up to your trip. This way you won’t be spending the money you could be using to make your trip abroad that much more special. If you’re the type to be tempted on online casinos and pick up all of the promotions then try going technology free for a while. You’ll save money on your electricity and you won’t be tempted by those promo notifications.

Travel smart

Travel is one of the biggest expenses when it comes to going abroad. Trains, shuttles and plane tickets can suck your holiday fund dry if you don’t’ plan your travel properly and give yourself time to look. Booking travel at the last minute is one of the biggest and most unforgiveable mistakes that holiday makers make. The closer you leave booking travel to the day you’re supposed to leave the more expensive it’s going to be. Plane tickets especially can get notoriously expensive if you leave them to the last minute so, as soon as you’ve made the decision to travel, book your flight.

Airport parking is also a big hassle for travellers and suffers from the same problem. The earlier you book your airport parking the more likely you’ll be to reserve a space and get it for a reasonable price. If you don’t manage to book your parking you do have a couple of alternatives that might save you money. As long as you haven’t left your booking urgently late you could visit a price comparison site like Airport Parking to look for deals and cheaper options. If you’re having a parking emergency and there are absolutely not spaces available you should try looking at hotels near and around the airport. They tend to include free parking when you book a room overnight, which might even end up being less expensive than parking at the airport. It’ll be a bit of a walk to your terminal the next day, but at least you won’t be paying out the nose just to leave your car somewhere.
